Barry and Ileen’s Dream

Barry and Ileen’s Dream

Working for a Fortune 500 company in OH resulted in many business trips to Northern CA. As luck would have it, I have family in Monterey who were happy to show me around the area whenever business brought me west.

One day I came to the realization that each time I stepped off the plane, CA felt more and more like “home” to me – this is where I needed to live every day – not just every 6 weeks. And not just anywhere in CA, but in Monterey County where the choices of activities are endless – Where the ocean and the mountains meet to provide surroundings of unequaled beauty.

In 2009 we took the first step toward realizing our goal – A colleague of Susan’s at Alain Pinel helped us find a home in South County that met both our space and budget needs. The location was perfect for my husband’s requirement for warmer temperatures while still providing proximity to the ocean to feed my desire to walk a beach. We rented out that house for 2 years while we put together the rest of our plan. We found just the right business opportunity for my skills, and in 2011, I quit my corporate job and we moved 2441 miles west to our home that had been waiting for us.

Today our business is thriving and when we are ready to retire, we will have no need to move somewhere else – we’re here to stay. I saw my agent a short time after moving here permanently. I was going on and on about how happy we were with our choice to make Monterey County our home – he said to me “Well, you know you’ve moved to heaven, don’t you?” Amen to that…

My Story – Susan Clark

My Story – Susan Clark

When I was 21 having just moved to San Francisco, I drove down to the Monterey Peninsula for the first time and fell in love with the area. I walked the quaint streets of Carmel and motored in my little red Fiat convertible down Highway One along the Big Sur coast. Having just moved from Florida, I was awed by the breath-taking rugged coastline and the amazing beauty of the entire area. Since I was just beginning a career in San Francisco, I wasn’t free to move to Carmel at the time, but I promised myself that someday I would move here. Over the years I came to the Monterey Peninsula again and again. After my husband and I met, it became our “special place” and we came down often to play golf and walk the white sands of Carmel Beach – all the time plotting how we could eventually move here. The day came when my husband took an early retirement and we could live anywhere we wanted. By then I was a realtor and I knew I could sell real estate anywhere so we sold our homes, bought a home in Pacific Grove and have never looked back. That’s my story. What’s yours?

Hoffman's at Grasing's
We had been living on a ranch in Davis, CA and have enjoyed a life with horses and wide open spaces. When it came time for us to retire, we yearned to live by the sea and were referred to Susan Clark by an agent from the Saratoga area. We explored other properties with Susan, but we really wanted to find a unit in this particular complex. Unfortunately, there were none available in our price point. Susan wrote letters to all the owners and networked with the real estate community and finally found a unit that the owners wanted to sell. Long story short, we bought the unit before it even came on the market at a great price. We are now living our dream in our dream home in Pebble Beach.
